Just read this a few months back and it was a pretty good read, though definitely more of an occult-themed mystery/thriller as opposed to straight-up horror. It's weird that I only just recently realized Parke Godwin is the co-author of 1983's A COLD BLUE LIGHT (with Marvin Kaye), which has been in my massive to-read pile for forever.

Parke Godwin wrote some of the best Arthurian novels in that sub genre, too : Firelord, Beloved Exile, and the somewhat related Last Rainbow, which has a tribe of Faerie-folk leaving the British isles and landing somewhere in North America. I was not aware PG wrote horror, but I know Marvin Kaye's name is on as editor of some of the best horror anthologies I own.

@Unknown: Yes, Kaye's 'Masterpieces of Terror and the Supernatural' is a must-read (and a must-own, considering the stellar Edward Gorey cover art). Godwin actually has a story in it, but I don't remember much about it.

Godwin and Kaye collaborated frequently, and did some nice work in humorous fantasy separately for the magazine FANTASTIC in the late '70s (Godwin's THE LAST RAINBOW got its start there).. Kaye had a run of good sales with fat anthologies with Gorey covers for the Doubleday Book Clubs in the '90s.
